January 5, 2020
2020 is finally here. Not only is this a new year, but it’s the start of a brand-new decade as well. That means your New Year’s resolution should really be one that can last for the next ten years. If you’re stumped on what to pick for your resolution, why not choose to take better care of your oral health? One way to begin this process is by scheduling a checkup and cleaning with your dentist in Beaumont. Here are a few reasons why this is the perfect way to start the year and the decade off on the right foot.
Catch Tooth Decay
Next to the common cold, tooth decay is the most common disease in the entire world. In fact, more than 90% of adults have had cavities before. Although it might seem harmless just because it’s common, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. What starts out as a tiny hole in your enamel could easily spread to the delicate center of your tooth and cause extreme pain. When this occurs, you might need more than just a filling. You may require a more serious procedure like a root canal or tooth extraction.
Diagnose Gum Disease
If your gums bleed when you brush and floss, you might have gum disease, a bacterial infection that’s estimated to affect more than half of Americans at some point in their lives. Left untreated, this condition can have hugely negative effects on your general well-being. It has been linked to heart disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, type 2 diabetes, and more. Visiting your dentist regularly can help detect and treat gum disease before you develop any complications from it.
Get Your Smile Shining Bright
After your dentist evaluates your mouth for any issues, they will hand you over to a dental hygienist, who will thoroughly clean your pearly whites. Even if you brush and floss every day, there are areas your tools at home will inevitably miss, which is where this cleaning comes in. Your dental hygienist will remove built-up plaque and tartar that, if left to accumulate, could cause cavities and gum disease. Then, they will polish your teeth with a special paste that will leave your teeth practically sparkling.
Going to the dentist might not be your favorite activity, but it should definitely be added to your list of New Year’s resolutions. Your teeth and gums will be glad you did!
